Choose a method based on the part, not just the rust
Furniture can combine metal with upholstery, wood, paint, and other finishes. A treatment that works well for a loose steel bolt may be a poor choice for an attached leg beside fabric.

Check the furniture before you start

Lemon and salt provide a more localized alternative when immersion is impractical, while citric acid is another low-effort soak for unpainted items. The potato and dish soap method works on small spots but is the least convenient of the five.
